AI job disruption worldwide: 652,179 net since 2025

A modelled indicator in the debt-clock tradition, calibrated to the World Economic Forum's Future of Jobs Report 2025, which projects 11 million jobs created and 9 million displaced by 2030. Since January 2025 that is an estimated 3,586,988 created against 2,934,808 displaced — 55% created against 45% displaced. The margin between the two is the whole story: creation leads, and not by much.

The two sides are not derived the same way and should not be read as equally solid. The creation rate moves with AI postings we count on a panel of employers' own job boards. The displacement side is a flat projection: no employer publishes a feed of the jobs their AI replaced, so we observe nothing about it. Both are estimates of the whole market, not counts of what we track.

3,624 open AI roles right now

This is what the modelled clock above is built on: the creation rate is derived from these 3,624 open AI roles at 166 named employers, across 12 sectors and 5 regions. The panel is a sample, not the world, and every employer in it can be audited. The panel is concentrated: its five largest employers are 33.1% of these roles, and Accenture alone is 16.4%.

Every figure here is counted, not modelled. Tracked daily since 2026-07-24. Of 4,112 roles we have seen, 488 have since closed.

3,183 are core AI roles — building or operating AI systems — and 441 are AI-adjacent: the data and automation work AI has absorbed, which is where a bank's and a hospital's AI staff sit. We count them separately and never merge them. What counts as an AI role.

Where AI is actually being hired

Open AI roles per tracked employer, because a sector where we track five companies and one where we track thirty-five cannot be compared any other way. Healthcare & life sciences runs 31.2 per employer, 1.5 times the rate of the AI and software companies the industry usually counts. Professional services is higher at 126.7, but 78.4% of it is Accenture, so we do not lead with it.

  • Healthcare & life sciences: 31.2 open AI roles per employer
  • Transport & logistics: 23 open AI roles per employer
  • AI & software: 20.9 open AI roles per employer
  • Media & entertainment: 18.8 open AI roles per employer
  • Financial services: 15.7 open AI roles per employer
  • Retail & consumer: 13.8 open AI roles per employer
