ChatGPT Mil and Grok for Government, custom iterations of popular consumer generative AI models, are now integrated into GenAI.mil. This centralized, secure portal was launched last year to offer Department of Defense employees access to commercial AI models without exposing sensitive data through standard consumer channels. The military versions are designed to avoid the typical data collection practices associated with consumer tech products.
GenAI.mil initially featured Google Gemini and has since gained traction, with more than 1.7 million unique users from the department's personnel base. These new additions reflect the Pentagon's ongoing initiative to leverage AI tools for enhancing work efficiency and maintaining security.
ChatGPT Mil, developed under the OpenAI for Government program, offers a user experience similar to commercial ChatGPT versions. It focuses on chat, files, projects, and custom GPTs. Grok for Government is positioned with broader militaristic capabilities.
