The center of gravity at work is shifting as intelligent agents move from pilots to day-to-day collaborators. They do not only automate routine steps; they redistribute decisions and redraw handoffs, which shifts accountability and power on teams. That makes the next few quarters less about tools and more about job design. Across the 43 employers we track, 1,149 AI roles were open as of 2026-07-31. Our model puts new AI jobs created month-to-date at roughly 183,835. Those numbers sit beside a deeper change: tasks once defined as core to a role are being split, delegated to agents, or recombined around human judgment. Managers must decide what stays human-owned, how to measure outcomes when agents do the legwork, and which skills to pay for. For workers, the risk is fragmentation and invisible work coordinating software; the upside is a chance to trade repetitive execution for context, relationship building, and oversight. Hiring will chase people who can specify, monitor, and integrate agents into production workflows, while teams renegotiate ownership and escalation paths. If intelligent agents keep advancing inside workflows, titles will lag reality. The jobs worth having will be the ones that make the agents useful and keep them accountable.
